At Dogwatch, we love seeing our rescue dogs flourish, and Latte is a shining example of just how much potential these incredible dogs have when given the right guidance and care. This sweet, affectionate girl has been busy making a difference in the community, spreading joy, and helping to educate people about safe interactions with dogs – all while continuing her own personal training journey!
Thanks to the dedication of our behaviour advisor, Rachel Johnston, Latte has been working alongside Christchurch City Council’s Animal Management team, participating in their Dog Safety workshops. She recently visited Environment Canterbury and the Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust, where her calm and friendly nature helped create positive learning experiences for staff and visitors alike.
But that’s not all! Latte has also become a regular visitor at Essie Summers and Cashmere View Retirement Villages, where she brings comfort and companionship to residents every fortnight. Her gentle presence and affectionate personality make her a favourite among those she visits, proving just how special rescue dogs can be.
Latte’s Training Journey 🐾
While Latte has been thriving in her community work, she has also made huge progress in her own personal training. When she first arrived at Dogwatch, Latte struggled with dog reactivity and arousal levels, meaning she found it difficult to stay calm around other dogs and could become overly excited in certain situations. However, with time, patience, and consistent training, she has come on leaps and bounds over the past couple of years.
Where Latte once needed a significant amount of space from other dogs to feel comfortable, she is now able to safely mix with some dogs and has significantly reduced the distance at which she reacts to others. She is showing amazing self-control and is becoming much calmer and more confident in various environments.
Latte has also made huge strides in her interactions with people. She is now much more relaxed and focused, making her a training superstar when working with our team. Whether she’s learning new skills or practicing tricks, she tackles every training session with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
The Final Piece of the Puzzle – A Home of Her Own 🏡
Latte has proven herself to be an amazing ambassador for rescue dogs, showing just how much they can achieve with the right training, care, and support. She has so much love to give and would make a loyal, intelligent, and affectionate companion for the right adopter.
