Billy’s story is a special one. He’s come to us as a private surrender from a loving home, which means we have wonderful insight into who the real Billy is.
This handsome 4-year-old black Lab has come a long way since his rough start. With care and patience, he’s grown into a healthy, happy boy who loves the water, enjoys the company of other dogs, and lives peacefully with a cat (though we’re unsure how he’d go with cats outside the home).
Billy knows a few basic commands and has plenty of energy to burn, though his recall still needs some work. He’s fine with dog savy kids (13+) he knows but can be uncertain around adults at first. When meeting new people, Billy tends to hang back and bark softly to let you know he’s unsure — but with gentle patience, he soon begins to relax and show his sweet, trusting nature.
Billy is likely to need quite a few meetings to feel super brave about engaging, but we know there are patient people out there who are willing to take a chance on dogs like him. With time and understanding, he’ll show you what a loyal, loving boy he truly is.
Billy will do best in a calm, experienced home, where he can take things at his own pace and continue building confidence. He’s happy spending time alone in his kennel and run but dreams of a life indoors — curled up on the couch beside you.
