More about Monkey
**2/2/26 Update: Monkey’s applications are now closed as he is in foster to adopt**
Monkey is a bright, affectionate 6 1/2 -year-old Staffy cross who joined us from the Ashburton Animal Shelter.
Full of energy and curiosity, Monkey is powered by his nose — he loves exploring, sniffing, and learning new things. He’s currently working on “Touch” and “Place” and is picking them up beautifully. His jumping-up is improving, and he’s learning to relax faster each day.
Monkey may need a little help learning how to live in a home, as we suspect he’s been an outside-only dog until now – however he has been a dream office dog, so we think he will adjust well into a home environment. He’s so ready for that warm couch spot and a family to call his own.
He has mixed well with a male and female here and we will continue to socialise him with other dogs, he is best suited to a home with children 13+ as he is still learning to greet people with all four paws on the floor.
Monkey’s lead skills have improved dramatically and he is now a dream to walk on the lead, he is also great at ignoring other dogs across the road.
Monkey is suitable to live with a confident cat.
We have recently discovered that Monkey has some mild-moderate hip dysplasia and spondylosis in his back and tail. He also has some sensitive skin but we are currently determining if this is more food or environmental related. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions regarding Monkeys medical needs! These conditions don’t stop Monkey from being a fun loving boy!
