More about Kobe

Meet Kobe

Kobe is a 2.5-year-old Retriever with a gentle, affectionate nature and a huge amount of love to give. He has been deeply loved by his owner, and this has been a very difficult decision. Our goal now is to find Kobe a home that can provide the care, patience, and understanding he needs to thrive.

Kobe is a sensitive boy who forms a strong emotional bond with his people. He is very tuned in to the feelings around him and does best in a calm, emotionally stable home. When his people are relaxed and happy, Kobe is too. If things feel tense or upset, he may withdraw and look for a quiet space.

He enjoys his daily routine and especially loves walks on the lead, water play, and cuddles in the morning and evening. Kobe is also a clever dog who knows a range of cues including sit, down, come, back, wait, outside, in, and no.

Health wise, Kobe has been assessed for hip dysplasia. At this stage surgery is not required, but his physical activity will need to be managed throughout his life. Long or strenuous exercise is not suitable for him, and his future home will need to be committed to supporting his comfort through appropriate exercise, supplements, and potentially physiotherapy if needed as he ages.

Because of his joints, Kobe would benefit from a warm home with carpet or good traction, as slippery floors can be difficult for his back legs. A soft padded bed will also help keep him comfortable.

Kobe currently takes medication morning and night, which needs to be crushed into his food. Consistency with this routine will be very important for his wellbeing.

A few things to know about Kobe:
• 2.5-year-old Retriever with a gentle, affectionate nature
• Very emotionally tuned in to his people and prefers a calm home
• Loves walks on the lead, water, cuddles, and big soft toys
• Strong basic obedience and eager to please
• Needs daily medication given morning and night
• Requires a home with good flooring traction and a warm resting space
• Exercise will need to remain moderate due to his hips
• Enjoys enrichment like food puzzles and frozen treats
• May chew soft household items if left alone for long periods

Kobe is a truly special dog who will bring deep companionship and loyalty to the right home. His future owner will need to be prepared for the long-term responsibility of managing his physical wellbeing, including the possibility of future veterinary or physiotherapy support if his condition progresses later in life.

For the right person or family, Kobe will be an incredibly loving companion who will return the care given to him many times over.
