Kauri came to Dogwatch in April 2023 at 6 months old from the Tauranga City Council Pound and quickly became a staff favourite, thanks to her gentle and sweet nature! It didn’t take long for her to be snapped up by Alice, James, and their whānau, finding the perfect home.
Here’s what Alice has to say about their beautiful girl:
“Our Kauri is the sweetest smooch of a softy dog, despite assumptions about her possible breed. We can relate, as people can make judgements about us and our autistic son too. Giving our rescue dog a loving home has been a win win.
Since Kauri joined our pack, our son has really connected with her, and it has flowed into his connecting with others also. His language has grown, and often he asks “what’s Kauri doing?” She has become a support dog for him. He loves to lie with his ear on her chest or belly. He is willing to go out on his scooter when she comes, when in the past he wouldn’t have.
But really, she is a support dog for each of us. She happily gives us all individual love and cuddles. Our favourite time is bedtime, when all four of us hop into bed.
She knows the words ‘beach’ and ‘walk’, so we spell them, but she has even clicked onto that! She loves going out with her Dad on his bike or scooter too, but her favourite is still the beach.
Life without Kauri is unimaginable now. She brings us such happiness, and we shower her with love and affection in return. We like to think she is truly living her best life with us.”
