Jasper is a truly special soul who spent quite a long time with us at Dogwatch. He originally came to us from the Christchurch City Council pound as a young dog, around a year old. Sadly, his first adoption didn’t work out and he was returned to us, spending another full year in our care.
Anxious and sometimes unsure, Jasper gained confidence from being around calm, social dogs — so when Rebecca and Craig expressed interest, we knew it might just be the perfect match. With two greyhounds already at home, this experienced couple were prepared to go at Jasper’s pace and give him the time and space he needed.
Here’s what Rebecca has to say about how Jasper is getting on:
“Jasper has been settling in beautifully since coming home. He’s a pretty serious boy a lot of the time, but likes to play and persisted with his elderly sisters — managing to teach Chicago (black greyhound) to play.
Judging from the photos we’ve been trawling through, he spends most of his time sleeping! And to be fair, he does!
We think he’s pretty happy with his new home and sisters. Jasper and Chicago are besties, and Romi (the grey greyhound) keeps an eye on them with minimal distain.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing — Jasper didn’t initially appreciate Romi’s nuances and there were some disagreements — but they’ve settled into a tolerant acquaintance and even share an open window on car rides!”
We are absolutely thrilled for Jasper and so grateful to Rebecca and Craig for giving him the home he so truly deserved. After so long in care, it warms our hearts to see him living the good life — napping, playing, and bonding with his new pack.
You did it, Jasper. We’re so proud of you. 💛
