Macy’s journey has taken an unexpected turn. Her planned hind leg amputation has been postponed after she came into season, which means her surgery and recovery timeline has shifted.

While this isn’t what we had hoped for, Macy is still very much deserving of a home, and we’d like to start opening up applications for those who feel they could be the right fit for her.

It’s important to be open about where Macy is at. She is currently managing a significant amount of chronic pain, and being in season has added another layer of change for her, both physically and behaviourally. Because of this, we will be taking a thoughtful and careful approach to applications, and this may be a longer journey to adoption than usual.

Macy is a clever and affectionate 1-year-old Collie mix on the smaller side. She has spent time in a home environment where she lived with a child and adjusted beautifully to family life.

She is social with both male and female dogs and could live with a well-matched companion, though this isn’t essential. She travels well in the car and is lovely to walk on the lead.

Macy can be unsure around new people, particularly men, but with space, choice, and positive introductions, she builds trust and forms strong bonds.

Once she is able to go ahead with surgery, orthopaedic advice is that she is expected to go on and live a full, happy life as a tripod dog.

We are happy to support a foster-to-adopt pathway, and Macy has a secure foster placement where she can remain through surgery and recovery if needed, before transitioning into her forever home.
