More about Hope
**UPDATE** Hope is on trial with a new family
Hope is a gorgeous 5 year old Collie/Huntaway cross who came into our care during lockdown after her elderly owner passed away. She has had multiple owners and was rescued by her last owner from a farm where she was chained and treated adversely for not performing well as a working dog. It’s fair to say that for Hope, life has not always been easy or kind.
She is a placid, loving dog but not surprisingly, can be anxious and fearful in new situations with people she doesn’t know. We felt that the shelter environment would be too stressful for her so placed her into a loving foster home where she has made great progress.
Her foster mum says she is real sweetheart and just loves to be anywhere you are. She walks well on the lead and is gaining confidence when out on a walk especially when it is a route that she is familiar with. She has fantastic recall in quiet/calm situations but has not been off lead in busier areas due to her anxiety. Hope is crate and toilet trained. She loves the comforts of home and has discovered that couches are happy places and sleeping on a bed is heaven.
In her foster home she is living with a 6-year-old but is happier and more relaxed while he is at school so we think she would do best in an adult home with daytime company. She has a herding instinct and will chase cats, birds and other animals. She is quite fearful when meeting new dogs but friendly once she gets to know them and her confidence returns.
Hope currently suffers from itchy skin and is on medication. This is an ongoing cost of approximately $110 per month.
We are looking for a calm, quite home for this sweet girl where she has daytime human company and an owner who will enjoy continuing to show her how good life is with patience, kindness and consistency.
