At Dogwatch, we love seeing our rescue dogs flourish, and Latte is a shining example of just how much potential these incredible dogs have when given the right guidance and care. This sweet, affectionate girl spent her time with us making a real difference in the community — spreading joy, supporting dog-safety education, and showing people just how special rescue dogs can be.
Thanks to the dedication of our behaviour advisor, Rachel Johnston, Latte worked alongside Christchurch City Council’s Animal Management team, participating in their Dog Safety workshops. She visited organisations including Environment Canterbury and the Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust, where her calm, friendly nature helped create positive learning experiences for staff and visitors alike.
But that was only part of her community mahi. Latte also became a regular and much-loved visitor at Essie Summers and Cashmere View Retirement Villages, bringing comfort, companionship, and plenty of tail wags to residents every fortnight. Her gentle presence, soft manner, and love of pats made her a favourite wherever she went.
Latte’s Training Journey 🐾
Alongside her community work, Latte also made huge strides in her own personal training. When she first arrived at Dogwatch, she struggled with dog reactivity and arousal levels, finding it hard to stay calm around other dogs and becoming easily overwhelmed.
With time, patience, and consistent training, she came on leaps and bounds.
Where she once needed a lot of space to feel safe, she eventually learned to calmly coexist with other dogs and even mix with some. Her self-control improved dramatically, and she grew more confident in a wide range of environments.
Latte also blossomed in her interactions with people. She became relaxed, focused, and genuinely enjoyed learning — tackling every training session with enthusiasm, intelligence, and a willingness to please.
The Final Piece of the Puzzle – A Home of Her Own 🏡
After 4.5 years in our care, and after giving so much back to the community, Latte has finally found her forever home — a loving Mum who adores her and appreciate everything that makes her the incredible dog she is.
Her new chapter is filled with love, security, and all the comforts she waited so patiently for.
